Project Overview
In May 2023, construction officially began on the Polyhali Dam project in the mountains of Lesotho. This massive dam, 171 meters high and 921 meters long, with a total reservoir capacity of 2.325 billion cubic meters, is the largest infrastructure project between Lesotho and South Africa and the largest water conservancy project in Lesotho's history. It will bring abundant water resources from Lesotho's mountainous regions to water-scarce areas in South Africa. Upon completion, it will not only address South Africa's domestic water shortage, but also boost the development of Lesotho's national electricity and water conservancy sectors.
